Digital Signage Certification is a process by which individuals involved in the various elements of a digital signage network can gain the necessary expertise to better insure the success of their projects. A person should consider certification regardless of whether they are an end user or a systems integrator/distributor or a network owner or a manufacturer of puzzle pieces required to complete the deployment of a digital signage network.
There are currently four different courses that are offered by the Digital Signage Experts Group to achieve certification. Completing any one of the courses gains you certification and the right to use the appropriate certification recognition on your digital signature. Not all people need to take every course, as you will see from the following descriptions and outcomes expected when a class is finished. Many folks need to take at least two to make sure they have the proper understanding of the technology that goes into a digital signage network.
Digital Signage Certified Expert (DSCE) – this course will bring AV, IT, signage, advertising, out-of-home marketing and content creation professionals up to speed on key advancements in the booming digital signage industry. Participants will master the formulas for successful design, hardware and software selection, deployment, content creation and criteria for Return on Investment (ROI) and/or Return on Objectives (ROO) for digital signage network implementations. The course closely examines all of The 7 Key Elements of Digital Signage™ and how to best utilize these key elements to insure success. This course is the basic course and the minimum requirement for becoming a Digital Signage expert.
Digital Content and Media Expert (DCME) – all agree that content delivers the messages set forth in the objectives of a digital signage network. The Digital Content and Media Expert class defines content, what it can and cannot do and how it can be an effective communication tool in terms of impact and relevance to engage the viewer. The physical properties, rules of content, costs of production, and options for outsourcing are all discussed. Also examined in depth is content strategy, the business side of content, and the relation of analytics in measuring your ROI/ROO. This course is a must for anyone involved in the content strategy, the content creation or the content refreshing in a digital signage project.
Digital Signage Network Expert (DSNE) – this course is a complete introduction to networks, protocols, and connecting devices for the digital signage installer. It provides a path of discovery to network communications and Internet protocols and reveals the secrets of ports, throttling, bandwidth network security and policies. This is a more technical class than the previous two courses we have outlined. It is not a requirement for the marketing and creation teams, but it is highly recommended for the technical and support teams in a digital signage project.
Digital Signage Display Expert (DSDE) – Like the DSNE course – this course is designed for the more technical aspects of a digital signage project. The course recognizes that video display devices never perform at their peak right out of the box. Proper calibration is the only answer. Each type of display requires detailed set up and configuration. Understanding the nuances of display technology and how to calibrate them to deliver the “perfect picture” is required. It is highly recommended for anyone involved in the installation of display technology in a digital signage project.
